Swim Smooth - Review
Sunday, September 17, 2006 at 09:25PM On Saturday, I made a spur of the moment decision to take up a final space at the Swim Smooth clinic in Bath. The session ran from 8:30-17:00 and consisted of mixed swim sessions and theory. For those who swim in my lane, you will be familiar with the regular comments on my arms crossing in front.
The day is focused pretty much 100% on stroke correction with advice on drills.
We had a full group that consisted of 12 swimmers with 3 coaches, Paul Newsome managing the day and providing the main diagnosis on the strokes. The day started with an hour in the pool focused on video both above and below the water.
We watched the videos as a class, and I found the most striking observations being:
- My arms do indeed cross over (I guess I am going to have to admit it now)
- My overall stroke was very short - particularly at the front
- I dont rotate enough.
So that was the bad news.. Paul analysed the videos and was able to point out a number of points and the drills needed to correct. When back in the pool, these were tested and I found some immediate benefit - strangely with the rotation enhanced, I found the muscles in the back were tested.
The day cost £125 (BTA member) and based on the benefit, and individual attention I found it good value. Clearly now its up to me to put the lessons into practice - and now with this write up I am sure I will be in the spotlight (I plan to hide at the back).
