Race report - Property Traithlon (Julian)
Sunday, July 1, 2007 at 09:01PM I did the Property Triathlon on Friday - an event for people in the property field (not that I am any more!)
Yet again my pre-race prep included a 5 hr sleep, even thought the race was not till 11am on Friday
Having been away all week on business, I loaded my bike into the car near to midnight, deciding to pump up the tyres - BANG, rear tyre destroyed due to a split wall. So I then had to research where a decent bike shop in the Windsor area was to be found and opening at 9 for arrival at Dorney by 10. Even then, I managed to fit the inner tube wrongly so the new tube went bang too, but eventually got it sorted.
The Dorney site is the Eton Rowing club, lovely location, nice clean water. The race was a 750m swim, then 4 laps of the lake (20.4km) then a 5km run.
I was in the 45+ age group, which may have flattered my performance as I came 32nd out of 75 - easily my best ever with a satisfying 1h28m11s - under 1h30 which was my target. I had a decent swim time (35th in 16 mins), cycle ride not helped by a very strong wind and one 10 minute torrential downpour (21st in 41 mins), and for me a reasonable run (55th in 27mins)
All in all a great event. Simon Williams was also there although I didn't see him - he did a 1h32 finish
See you in Bournemouth next week, and hope the weather perks up!
Julian
