Kevin King 6th in European Championships
Following my earlier note on the European Championships in Copenhagen, now that the results are published on <http://www.triathlon.org/>, Kevin King's strength in depth is shown with a worthy sixth place in the M45 category. Consistent across the disciplines, he beat me by some six minutes, mainly on a technical bike course, in a competition where some of the vets' times were faster than the seniors. Kevin was second British athlete in his category, and I was third. I was pleased with my swim, which was a PB for me, but still need to work on the bike (technology notwithstanding), and suffered from bad cramps in both thighs during the run, which almost stopped me in my tracks. I felt the twinges coming on in the swim in 15C water, having had no warm-up because of my technical hassles. Nevertheless, the race was a gratifying and educating experience, with team GB enjoying the most professional and vocal support of all the nations present, most of all my own Jemma and Caspar, who were both supremely enthusiastic and unfailingly tolerant of my fretfulness!
