Timex Womenonly Triathlon - Race Report
Challenge Distance 800swim 30.6K bike 7.5K run
For the first time in the 18yr year Human Race history we were told that wetsuits were to be banned and was due to the current heat-wave widespread over the UK. The water temperature was reported as 23.5 so this sounded ok, just the thought of less buoyancy to help was initially a concern. The other change from last year was that we stayed in the water for the full distance rather than hop out run and back in, this was good for keeping a steady pace and my time of 18.28 without a wetsuit was only a minute slower than my previous time.
The good swim set me up for the bike and again this went really well, probably pushed a bit too hard at times, it was getting very hot by the time I went out to run and it was the usual drag myself to the finish. When I looked at the result to be 27th out of 80+ on the bike was very pleasing, although 64th on the run was expected and disappointing after doing well on the other 2 disciplines. It was nice to meet another club member Catherine on the day and we encouraged each other a various stages of the race.
