Weekly News 11 February

(A bit long but even if you ignore all other club emails, this one is essential reading!)

AGM Sat 6 March at 1015 - whilst this might sound like the dullest thing imaginable our club relies on you, the members, to make it work.  We need a quorum of a minimum number of members to be able to conduct the meting, so I would urge all Saturday swimmers to stay for this meeting, and help elect the people who you want to represent you next year.

Membership Secretary.  Sonia Povey has taken over this essential role and we are delighted to have such a keen and welcoming person as the face to greet potential and new members

Dave Murchie:  welcome back Dave, after a period of illness.  Dave is the second longest serving club member, former club Chairman, high ranking GB age grouper in the World Champs in 2008 (70-74 age group).  We are glad to see you back in the pool with the same cheerful enthusiasm and a physique 20 years younger than its real age!

Club ride this Sunday 14th Feb. THIS WILL BE AT 0915 NOT 0930 as stated in my earlier posting,  starting from Otterbourne. I will be leading the ride . The route this week is less hilly (quite flat in places) and is 37 miles.  We will be heading clockwise on the route attached.  There is the option of cutting off down the road towards Winchester when we get to Stockbridge, saving a few miles but adding some hills.

  • The meeting point is at Otterbourne Village Hall (SO21 2ET) CLICK HERE
  • Interactive map of route (anticlockwise) CLICK HERE
  • For a high quality OS PDF of the route CLICK HERE

As before our aim is to ensure that no-one is left behind.  If you have any concerns about your fitness/cycling ability contact Julian to see how we can help you!  You may wish to print out the map in case you decide to slope off early and make your own way back. The route planned should be around 2.5hrs or a little longer.  Our intention is that you can have a fun/challenging ride and still have time for your family/friends/running/swimming! Forecast is dry and cold.

Club ride start times.  To save confusion from changing these too often, the February ones will be at 0915, and from March we will move to 0900.  As I personal preference I would like to move April to 0845 and 0830 for May.  I am happy to consider all views! Also as stated above if it needs to be changed or cancelled at short notice we will post an update at 0800 on Sundays (earlier if we can)

Club social. Reminder of this on Thursday 25th February at the Chilworth Arms.  For full details CLICK HERE
