Calshot swimming starts Sunday 16th May
Calshot swimming starts from this Sunday 16 May here http://tinyurl.com/calshot-swimming The STC swim time this week (changes every week) will be 1130 but you are welcome to go along at any time after that if you wish. Unlike previous years we will not have designated club leader at these swims (unless I get a volunteer) so the lifeguards will designate a time and I leave you to turn up and swim at your own risk and there is no guarantee that others will be joining you. If you do swim, please sign in at the hut and LISTEN carefully and respectfully to advice from the lifeguards
The sea is now officially toasty and warm! Mary who is one of the lifeguards said she has been going in for up to 20 minutes “but of course people with wetsuits are staying in longer”! I have been in the sea today in Cornwall for a 20 min swim (with wetsuit) and after the first 5 minutes it was fine and I could have stayed in for a good while. I also managed 90 mins body boarding.
Please note that the lifeguards are volunteers and they welcome anyone to the beach. Use of the hut for changing is offered on a friendly basis to club members. Non club members should politely enquire if they can change there but we ask everyone to be respectful of the hard work and warm welcome that Peter and Mary offer. Just a reminder to members who swim at Calshot, bright coloured hats are required to be worn. This is for safety purposes, not just for warmth. This enables the lifeguards to see you easily.
If you are offered a hot drink it would be polite to make a small donation to the lifeguards’ collection box
For future reference the swim times for the next couple of weeks are
Sunday 23rd STC swim time 1000 to 1100
Sun 30th STC swim time 1130
Bank Holiday Monday 31st STC swim time 1200
Happy swimming!
Julian
