Dorset Try a Tri
My first Tri of the season (well a super sprint 250m swim, 10 miles bike, 3 mile run), run by the well organised Michelle from resultstriathlon. Tried and disappointed after coming back from watching Liverpool in the FA Cup, the morning was quite fresh but at least the rain was holding off.
For some reason I was going in the last wave (of 12) and I knew most of the field were quicker in the pool. I went off last and managed to catch the lady in front after 50, before I was caught by the first guy with 50m left. Exited the pool in 10th and had a reasonable transition and first time without wearing socks! After 1.5 miles I had managed to sight a group of 4 riders as a we approached a steep climb. Picked off 3 of them and went off after the 4th guy. Eventually caught and passed him on mile 5, only for him to draft behind me for the next 2 miles. He made an attack again, which he lead for another mile, before I passes for the second time.
Managed to pass 2 more from my wave on the final hill and went into transition 6th in the wave. Just three more miles, with my strategy to relax the breathing for the first mile (all down hill) and then kick in for the final two. Strategy worked well, as passed another guy from my wave after mile one, but the others were long gone.
Finished in reasonable shape and was generally pleased with my performance, but my competitive nature always thinking how and we're I could improve for next time. The provisional results came out last night, which placed me 6th overall and remarkedly 1st in age group!! Times were 4.03 swim, 29.40 bike, 21.03 run.
