Jurassic Coast Triathlon - Enter now !

In conjunction with Sail Laser UK I'm organising the above event to take place at Portland, venue for the 2012 sailing olympics, on 3rd September.  There is a choice of a challenging but scenic course involving a 1000m open water swim, 30km bike to Portland Bill and an 8km run along a disused railway line offering splendid views accross Portland Harbour.

For novice triathletes or those perferring a shorter race, there is a 400m open water swim, 15km bike and 4km run using parts of the above course.  As this is an experimental event, each athlete will be asked to make a donation of £5 to cover the cost of prizes etc.

The start time is 7am for both events.

If you want to avoid a very early start, you can stay at our guest house in the old harbour area of Weymouth, close to Brewers Quay and a 2 minute walk to the start.

I'm thinking of providing brunch after the event, again for a nominal fee.  While here you might also want to explore some of what the area has to offer.  Coastal walks, sports climbing, sailing, windsurfing to name but a few.  And if that sounds too energetic, there are plenty of bars and cafes to chill out in.

Please support this event organised by a club member for club members.  Just drop me an e-mail so I have an idea of numbers.

Vets take second place at National Relay's

national.jpg

The club fielded four teams at the National relays.

Southampton 1 - (Peter Jordan, Milan Desai, Tim Francis, Sylvie Atkinson)
Southampton 2 - (Lucy Jones, Sally Gilbert, Sara Coates, Nick Austin)
Southampton 3 - (Mike Ballard, Lynda Massey, Brian Minard, Trevor Shepherd)

The Southampton Vets team managed a very respectable 2nd place in the BTA national relay's in Nottingham.

The team comprised:

- Marius Kwint (Capt)
- David Ardley
- Ian Banks
- John Baddley

We managed to maintain a minute overall lead after the cycle leg. However the winning team proved too strong in the running department.

The team finished 2 minutes behind the winners (BRAT).

The final result was potentially at risk due to a contested penalty (over taking on the left), however with a strong protest this was removed.

Marius contacted the Southampton evening echo and the event result was published.
