For most people swimming is the most "technical" discipline.  We would suggest that you go and swim on your own or with friends (and perhaps get some coaching) until you can do a steady 200m front crawl (slow is fine!) and to do around 800m in a session.  That allows you to fit into a session with around 1600-1800m swimming (more for the faster lanes) and have a few breathers.  No-one will laugh or criticise you if you cannot complete every set.

If you can achieve the distances above, you should quickly be able to build up to swimming a whole session.  The total distances is ALWAYS broken up into smaller chunks, and different drills to improve technique and there is always the option of having a rest!
