Life Guards at Calshot report NO sighting at Calshot 15/08/08 despite also searching beach at low tide. NO incidents reported and NO warnings issued. Suggested by HCC to contact Marine Wildlife Trust to get update and have left 2 messages to no avail.I understand from those to be well acquainted with such beasts (the Life Guards) that they feel a certain local newspaper may have blown matters up some what! Seemingly, if in the very unlikely event you were to clash with one of these, the sting is similar to a Weaver fish (also loitering in some areas). I recall this to be like standing on a lit 'fag end'. I will check at Lepe prior to coming down and will advise accordingly should MWT contact me. Otherwise, I will be down there at midday to swim.

Jago comments on Calshot Swimming - 3pm on Sunday

I too swim at Applemore and am very unhappy about the prospect of canceling the Applemore Swim and this being the first I have heard of it.

Living in Hythe this was my most promising training session. By coached, I mean with a coach at the end of the lane who has written programmes based on the macro cycle of the training year, who understands the philosophy of winter and summer training and how it effects us as tri athletes
Coaches are needed to give us their expertise on helping us to improve our performance. This is not done by giving each lane a piece of paper with a programme written on it.
The club needs to cater for all levels of swimmers and if you axe the friday night sessions, there will only be 1 coached sessions for the more able swimmer, (mon) 1 coached session for the less able swimmer (wed) and saturday morning. Where does that leave the majority of the swimmers who want to be coached?
Kathy is an excellent coach and has offered much more than just coaching with her sound and practical expertise on training, nutrition, flexibility etc.
Coaches are needed to give us encouragement and motivation too.
I have heard that Applemore is very keen to be involved with the tri club and want to offer spinning classes, indoor triathlon training and pilates to us.

For me that leaves only two swimming sessions where I can focus on strength and stamina training, this will be the same for many members of the club. I will be swimming in Kevin King's lane on a wednesday night for my third strength and stamina session.

I would imagine that the fri night people will want to join Kathy's sat morning sessions. How will we all get into her two lanes? Having it on a first come basis would be very unfair as you will be penalising the fri night swimmers even further and Kathy's sat morning swimmers.

When it is pouring with rain in the winter and you are unable to go out on bikes/running, swimming is an excellent form of excercise to stay fit.

As far as the Calshot decision, where does that leave me? How will I know if there are going to be facilities available at Calshot? How will I know if there is going to be anyone there? I have to travel from Eastleigh, which is a fair old hike (not to mention petrol costs) to find that the wrong time has been posted on the website or there is no one there at Calshot. I also find the comment at the top of this page:
"Please note: This is no longer a coached swim session, so it depends on who is there as to whether there will be changing facilities available" unhelpful and uncaring.
